Fire Station 11
Atlanta, Georgia
Fire Station 11 presented a demanding program with a relatively small construction budget, and was sited on a complex and difficult lot. In order to give the building the presence a public edifice deserves we adopted a strategy that turned the projects limitations into advantages.
Where possible, necessities were exploited to give the otherwise functional design formal refinement. For example structural brick angle necessitated by the height of the exterior wall was set forward to create a relief which gives a hint of sculptural form to the exterior. To give the building a civic presence, super sized number "11's" were created from different color bricks and grout.
